Chapter 9
The cold water felt good upon my naked body as I bathed in the lake. I was grateful to have found somewhere to cleanse myself. Zeruk had gone to a set of bushes and trees far off in the distance to find some more herbs for my sack, though we had more than enough.
I scrubbed the dirt off my body and hair and I enjoyed the small moment of thoughtless relaxation that was granted to me. I floated on my back and stared at the lifeless sky; occasionally a dove or crow would come along, but oddly it would stop in its flight path and fly back to the south from whence it came. It was a curious event, but I figured I was near their

I have already gotten used to waking up to see the sky. I have been waking on my back, my eyes facing up in search of some sort of flying creature. All I see are crows and the occasional dove flying overhead.
Zeruk was already up and in search of breakfast, or so my gift told me. From what I saw in my mind's eye Zeruk was very successful at catching the fish and he was already on his way back, gathering fruit on his way back. From hat my gift allowed me to see, it was going to be a good breakfast.
I took the free time Zeruk permitted me as he hunted to ponder the recent events I had experienced. With the events in m

"She wanted to know my name?" Zeruk asked me as I recollected my experience with the old woman. He seemed very concerned as I told my tale.
"Yes, and she knew mine well. She knew of my time near Sarangala and about this sword." My tone was lighter than usual. I felt a small sense of pride in myself for my recent accomplishment for my information.
"Did you tell her that I was named Zeruk?" He asked. He was calm and very attentive as he stared into my eyes not daring to veer away from my attention.
"I will not give up a name that is not my own." I told him sincerely. It was something I hoped Zeruk would take upon

I woke up to see the sun beginning to rise. Looking out the window I saw the town still sleeping with the moon. The stars were still visible through the battling sunlight and the moon peaked overhead. Through the dirt-covered window few motions came from the town. Early riser merchants brought out the days supplies and I got up to ease my weary body.
Seeing Zeruk still sleeping like a dead animal I began to think of his first thought of the day; to see the town some more. Feeling uneasy about this thought I felt my usual reluctance to be with the human race. I thought about Zeruk's happiness from these humans and tried ta

"Were almost there! Were almost there!" Yelled a very excited Zeruk as we approached the town.
I walked along the narrow path leading to the large, busy town ahead. The town was in a hustle as people ran by us without even recognition of strangers in their town. They seemed to be in a panic to buy and sell their odd goods of jewelry, crop, and cloth. As I looked around, no man was selling weaponry and I knew it was best to keep my sword sheathed.
As we walked into the town, people began to notice us. The town seemed to have stopped as if one of the Dragons themselves had walked through the gates of the town. Odd amo

A few more long days went by as our journey continued. We still have yet to get bored of each other, despite the fact we have been spending every waking moment in each others company. Zeruk constantly showed off his knowledge about the noble Dragons and the ancient Phoenix. The Phoenix had been in existence since the dawn of life in this world. It controls all life, human or animal, and it has unlimited powers that cannot be comprehended by any being.
"The Phoenix also created a lot of the life here." Zeruk told me as he showed off his knowledge some more. "It created the humans and Dragons."

The time went by fast as we continued our journey. We slept at night and walked during the day. I began to teach Zeruk the ways to hunt and fight, despite the fact that he didn't enjoy meat very much. I taught him the ways to use a bow and sword, though we concentrated on the bow more at his request. I worked at the peak hours of the night when Zeruk slept to make him a miniaturized bow with small arrows. It fit his small size perfectly. In return he taught me unusual ways of stealth among the trees and everyday we discussed more of the Sacred Dragons and the humans and their necessity to this world, though still we found none.

"Good morning, young one." The serpent woke me up with his mighty voice.
"Same to you, mighty serpent." I responded as I got up. I had only slept a few hours, but I never needed much sleep to survive. I always figured humans slept so much because they were lazy and spoiled. I myself survive on my own spoiling.
I looked around our camp to see that the fire was out, our things gathered, and the monkey was holding my bow, arrows and sword in his tail.
"I suppose I am ready for my journey, thank you monkey. I hope to see you again someday." I began to bow, but he stopped me.

The long valley of the south filled my entire view and I could see nothing more than green grass. I took my first step of freedom and the wind gusted through my brown hair. I enjoyed the breeze against the hot sun, and the view of the valleys, hills and trees as I walked along my straight path.
The trees called me toward them and I climbed up the nearest one to get a better view. The valley went on forever except for some randomly places trees and a lake far off into the horizon. I jumped down and an odd rumbling began in the distance. I pulled off my bow and strung an arrow, walking cautiously as my bow faced the grou
